The number of infant walker–related injuries in the United States decreased markedly after (1) the introduction of stationary activity centers in 1994, which are devices without wheels that support children who are preambulatory similar to an infant walker, and (2) the revision of the infant walker voluntary safety standard, ASTM F977-96, which became effective in 1997 and required that infant walker frames be wider than a standard 36-in doorway or have a braking feature to stop the device if ≥1 wheels drop over the edge of a step. ![]()
